Sandals Whitehouse remain firm favourites again this season to win the Westmoreland Football Association Captain's Bakery and Grill Major League, after a devastating 5-0 whipping of Race Course in the mid-season final on Thursday at Frome Sports Complex.

A late second-half hat-trick from Dervin Campbell, who scored first in the 88th minute, then twice in time added, demolished Race Course, who had their floodgates ripped open just after midway the first half.

Dwayne Blake (34th) and Kemar Dawkins (76th) were on target for Sandals, which by midway the first half began dominating midfield.

But they had to wait until the second half for more goals, especially after coach Aaron Lawrence brought on Campbell, a speedy striker, who wasted no time in extending the lead to 3-0 with a well-taken goal in the 88th. The former national Under-20 striker added his second and third in the 91st and 93rd minutes, respectively, to seal the rout.

"We have high hopes for Dervin. He is our main striker and although he was not fully well, we brought him off the bench and he delivered with three well-taken goals," said Lawrence.

"He proved how much of a good forward he is and will no doubt be a tremendous asset for us as we target the Super League next season."

Campbell is showing why former national football technical director, Rene Simoes, picked him to be part of the Under-20 set-up and was targeted by current Red Stripe Premier League leaders, Harbour View, after bursting on the scene.

He led all scorers with 26 goals for Sandals last season in all competitions and could again be in line to carry the team to newer heights, according to Lawrence.

"Our next target is the Super League and, of course, premier League. We have the squad to do just that and Dervin is a key part of that thrust and an integral part of what we have at Sandals Whitehouse FC," stated Lawrence.
