Hottest topics on the cocktail circuit

30 children plus

1. At last count the tally was 30 children. But insiders say the businessman's widow can expect a few more to crawl out of the woodwork before the estate is finally settled. The businessman reportedly was rolling in dough, so many are now expecting to get their own substantial largesse.

Time to stop

2. Financial institutions ought to keep very tight reins on the loan-disbursement process. We have heard too many stories of customers being coerced into sponsoring overseas trips or north coast trysts as an add-on to their loans. And many have kept quiet for fear of reprisal.

Numbers game

3. So who was the hold-out in that huge numbers game? From all accounts, it was not the private sector that refused to play ball, so are there some people of power who have remained defiant and who cannot be touched?

Correction time

4. The exhibition is truly on. We observed someone amending the banner which drew our ire last week. He did a pretty good job and now everybody is happy.
