Earl Jarrett, general manager of the Jamaica National Building Society, has been appointed to fill the vacant position of selected commissioner on the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ), effective yesterday.
The vacancy was created when Professor Errol Miller resigned on December 31.
A chartered accountant by profession and graduate of the University of the West Indies, Jarrett also serves as chairman of the Jamaica Cancer Society, deputy chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board, honorary secretary of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, and is a director of The Gleaner Company's UK and North American Board.
A former council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica and past president of the Rotary Club of New Kingston, he also served as a member of the National Task Force on Political Tribalism and is a member of the National Council of Jamaica, Order of St John and the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus Council.
The governor general, who made the appointment, expressed his appreciation to Professor Errol Miller for 12 years of distinguished service, dedication and commitment to the Electoral Commission and to the people of Jamaica and "wishes Jarrett well as he commits himself to another phase of service to the nation".
