Grant pensioners better treatment

Published: Wednesday | March 13, 2013 Comments 0

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On March 8, 2013, I was collecting mail at the Mandeville Post Office. There were quite a number of pensioners in the line designated for pensioners, and to my dismay, there was no cash to pay their meagre sum called a pension.

I could observe the frustration on the elders' faces, especially to know that some travelled many miles, paying fares to come via buses and taxis, only to be told that no money is available.

Why do our pensioners who have given so much to their respective careers have to bear so much hardship and shame? Respect is not only due to the working public-sector employees who have accepted a wage freeze, but also to the retired public-sector workers in getting their pensions on time.
