ROCK RIVER, St Mary:

STUDENTS AT Rock River Primary School, St Mary, are learning in a cooler environment thanks to the donation of five fans from past student Deputy Superintendent of Police Hornet Williams.

The school now boasts four ceiling fans and a wall fan courtesy of Super Willie Promotions Limited, which has made several similar donations in the Kingston eastern division.

"I do parties and dances from time to time, and for every time I do a party, I try to give back to the community and especially to the school," Williams told The Gleaner.

He said it gave him pleasure to give back to his institution so that the youth from the community could enjoy a better environment at the school.

"Rock River Primary is my school. That's where I'm from, and I came to understand that they were in need of some fans, and out of my promotion, I decided to buy these fans because it's all about helping and trying to give back to the community in some way," he said.

Williams said there were other requests from the school, which he would try to honour.

"The fact that we would have gone to school and have achieved something in our lives, it is important that we give back to the less fortunate, give back to those who are coming up. Bear in mind that they will be the men and women of tomorrow, so as a result, we have to try to keep them on the right track and to help in whatever way we can," William said.

Veresa Davis-Brown, a senior teacher at the school, said the institution was grateful for the gift.

"This is his school. This is his alma mater. That means good things can come from anywhere. So it doesn't matter where you go. Once you work towards whatever it is that you want, you can accomplish it," Davis-Brown told her students.

The students were encouraged to settle down early, work towards their goals, and endeavour to be the best they could be.
