The Rex Nettleford Foundation has donated $500,000 to the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC).
The death of founder/artistic director Professor Rex Nettleford in February 2010 left such a tremendous void in the Jamaican society, and the region, that there was an immediate call to establish a foundation to ensure that his legacy endures.
The Foundation, which was established in May 28, 2010, seeks to source funding to, among other things, support the NDTC in its continued objective of providing Jamaicans with outstanding world-class entertainment rooted in Jamaican and Caribbean cultural realities.
Nettleford founded the NDTC in 1962 and remained a dancer, choreographer, and the artistic director until his death.
Board members include: Sir Shridath Ramphal, chairman; former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson; Vice-Chancellor E. Nigel Harris (UWI); Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Principal Gordon Shirley (UWI); Dr Beverley Pereira; Dr Carlton Davis; Dr Alwin Bully; Dr Cezley Sampson; and Dr Karl Rodney.
