Police Sergeant Calvin Lewis, who is the coach for the Arnett Gardens Football Club, was freed on Monday in the Home Circuit Court of a murder charge.

Lewis was charged with the murder of 17-year-old Hapete Henry in 1998.

Last week, Supreme Court judge Justice Lloyd Hibbert issued a warrant for popular Arnett Gardens community activist, George Phang, to appear in court as a witness in a murder case.

When Phang appeared in court yesterday, he said he did not witness the shooting.

A witness who testified last week said on the day in question, he heard an explosion but said he did not witness the shooting.

The Crown did not offer any further evidence against Lewis who was represented by Churchill Neita, QC.

It was alleged that Lewis shot and injured Henry at a football match between Arnett Gardens and Seba United at the National Stadium on April 22, 1998.

Henry died from his injuries days later.
