NIR plunge continues

According to the monthly report released on April 5 by the Bank of Jamaica, the net international reserves (NIR) in March 2013 stood at US$884.25m, representing a decrease of 5.9 per cent from the US$939.53m recorded in February 2013. This is a decline of US$55m when compared with last month.

Economy contracted in 2012

As predicted by the Planning Institute of Jamaica , data from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica revealed that the Jamaican economy contracted in 2012 as GDP fell by 0.35 per cent. This marks Jamaica's fourth year of contraction in the past five calendar years.

The Caribbean Open Data Conference was held at the University of the West Indies, Mona, on Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10. diGJamaica presented on its efforts to support and enhance local data journalism efforts in a presentation titled 'diGJamaica.com: The Gleaner Makes Information Accessible'.
