Pelican Publishers has expanded its operations into the digital domain of ebooks. The company recently completed the rollout of pelicandigitalbooks.com, a digital commerce platform designed for the sale and distribution of its growing ebooks catalogue.
Designed and developed by digital commerce pioneers EbooksCaribbean in collaboration with Distribute Digital, the platform provides a safe and seamless system for the sale of ebooks and provides distribution to nine of the web's largest ebooks retailers. Pelican Publishers is the very first publisher in the Caribbean to utilise eBooksCaribbean's download cardproduct, designed to leverage sales and marketing efforts of digital products off-line within traditional brick and mortar retail outlets.
Download cards allow merchants to sell digital products in a traditional brick and mortar retail environment. Somewhat similar to a prepaid phone card, the purchaser is presented with a card containing a unique code, which is then redeemed at a participating website. The unique code unlocks the digital product be it an ebook, music album, or video feature for secured download to the purchaser's device of choice.
The flexibility provided by download cards brings distinct advantages to the marketplace by integrating social commerce features that allow merchants to stay in contact with customers, offer discounts and enhance offline marketing efforts.
Trudy-Ann Matthews, Distribute Digital's vice-president for the Latin America region, expressed her pleasure in the collaboration stating; "Jamaica is the silicon island of the west and it was prudent for Distribute Digital to establish a presence here. We have been working closely with ebooksCaribbean to make that a reality, and now the time has come."
