Investor group acquires Lascelles transport companies

All Jamaica Airline Services Limited (AJAS) and Transportation Agencies Limited (TAL) have been acquired by a consortium of investors led by G. Raymond Chang Limited, Howard Mitchell, and Barnett Limited.

Other investors are Dr Richard Harrison, Judith Hanson, Attorney at Law, and Barry Byrne, who will be Managing Director, according to a statement from the new owners.

The value of the acquisitions was not disclosed. The businesses form part of the New Transport Group, the vehicle used by the former Trinidadian owner of Lascelles deMercado and Company, to hold the conglomerates non-spirits assets not included in the takeover by Gruppo Campari.

The new board of directors for AJAS and TAL include Mitchell as chairman, Paula Kerr-Jarrett, Judith Hanson, Alston Douglas, Godfrey Dyer, Christopher Bond, Barry Byrne and Dr Christopher Tufton as alternate director.

Mitchell has indicated that the new owners will move quickly settle outstanding personnel issue; and upgrade service levels at the companies, according to the release, which adds operations at AJAS will be seamless and uninterrupted by the ownership transition.
