THE EDITOR, Sir:
The implications of Vincent Taylor's Letter of the Day titled 'Science over fiction' (Gleaner, August 14, 2013) are alarming. They threaten the very foundations of our society! He writes of critical thinking and scientific rationality, of logic, observation and rigorous experimentation.
The consequences of what he is advocating would be devastating.
To two of the most fundamental pillars of Brand Jamaica, such carryings-on would be utter ruin! The religious Establishment and the political parties would be out of business! In fact, their personnel would have to find ways to make an honest living.
How could you wish such dire conditions on them?
I enjoyed his letter and share his frustration. I console myself with the statement attributed to W.S. Churchill: "In a democracy, every idiot is entitled to his stupid opinion."
Keep writing! Press on regardless!
