The seventh annual Seek Back-to-School raceday scheduled for Caymanas Park on Saturday, August 24 will also embrace the Sunday meet on August 25.
Plans for the two-day carnival were outlined by representatives of Book Empire (Seek), Caymanas Track Limited (CTL), Azan's Supercentre and L.P. Azar Limited at yesterday's launch in the Trainers' Room at Caymanas Park.
All of the above will combine to provide a treat for racing fans next weekend. The Sunday meet, the first in nearly two years, will for the first time be complemented by the opening of CTL offtrack betting outlets islandwide.
According to CTL's racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr, a crack field of open allowance horses will line up for the seventh running of the Seek Exercise Book Trophy (Grade II) over 1300 metres on August 24, this offering a total purse of $1 million.
Among those expected to start are last year's winner REASONABLE PRESS, the recent winners UPPA TUNE, HUPOMONE, EXOTIC GOLD, RIO COBRE, MILITARY MOVE and TRADITIONAL PRINCE along with EL PODEROSO and GO GO YVONNE.
According to Book Empire's CEO Bruce Baylis, the company will donate $250,000 to the purse of the Seek Exercise Book Trophy, but apart from the race, Seek will partner with Azan Supercenter on the second day of the race weekend for a Back-to-School Bonanza for families at which books and back-to-school accessories will be offered at reduced prices, while there will be product prizes and also giveaways to lucky patrons.
Also present at yesterday's launch were Kamaal Azan, general manager of Azan's Supercentre in Cross Road, CTL's marketing manager David Hobson, and the company's CEO Cedric Stewart.
