The best way to understand a people is to experience their culture. August is the best month to do just that in Jamaica. After participating in the festivities surrounding Emancipation and Independence, the most popular cultural holidays in Jamaica, make sure not to miss the western leg of the biggest cooking showdown on the island, the CB Pan Chicken Championship.
In celebration of pan chicken and the important cultural role it plays within Jamaican society, Caribbean Broilers continues its search for the most talented pan chicken man or woman in a battle of innovation, creativity and will.
On August 24, competitors from Hanover, St Ann, St James, Trelawny and Westmoreland will go head-to-head in a bid to determine the 'best in the west'. Patrons are encouraged to come out in support of their favourite chef while enjoying the pristine, white sands of Dump-Up Beach in Montego Bay.
THE BEST IN THE WEST
When the smoke clears, two finalists from each parish will advance to the grand finals, gaining an opportunity to win more than $500,000 in cash and prizes, including a business grant from First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union.
Come out and sample mouth-watering, delectable jerk chicken created from original recipes with unique blends of local flavours, herbs, spices and fruits. Top it off with seven hours of non-stop excitement with giveaways, stirring music, high-energy entertainment, and a kiddies village with fun rides for the young and adventurous. The exciting afternoon concert will feature live performances by popular local gospel deejay Prodigal Son and top dancehall artistes Tanya Stephens and Bugle.
The fun starts at 10 a.m., and admission is free.
The 2013 CB Pan Chicken Championship is endorsed by the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Ministry of Youth and Culture, the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
