THE EDITOR, Sir:
Kurt McLaren and Byron Wilson's article 'Should the environment lose every time?' (Gleaner, August 20) was excellent. I wish all of us had this quality of debate.
It's happening all over. The government of a South American nation just apologised that it now allowed fossil fuel exploration in a protected area - and made it sound like a rare and startling decision.
It's not. It's just the same old thing.
The reason adduced is that the world isn't paying enough to keep it natural.
Wow! It's like saying 'jobs, jobs, jobs' when what is being lost is all we have in the end - our character and our natural surroundings.
