Top-flight Atlanta delegation for MoBay Expo
Kasim Reed, the mayor of Atlanta, in the United States, will be heading a delegation of investors to St James for the 15th Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trade Exposition, which will take place between October 11-13.
The much-anticipated biennial three-day trade show, which will take place at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, will seek to explore the key areas to drive the development of Jamaica's services industry, under the theme 'Services Globalisation-Enabling Business Development.'
"We are in exciting times for Montego Bay," said Montego Bay's mayor, Councillor Glendon Harris, on Tuesday. "Expo 2013 is a route to opening the doors for persons to see the various opportunities that are available, and we are really looking forward to bringing our city into its rightful role as the economic and social hub of Jamaica."
Education Ministry to launch TV channel
The Ministry of Education has plans to launch a television channel later this year, featuring mastery lessons in subject areas where some schools do not have the necessary expertise.
Making the announcement at a recent back-to-school ceremony held at the Alpart Sport Club in Nain, St Elizabeth, Education Minister Ronald Thwaites said the medium will be "entirely devoted directly and through the cable to learning good instructions in mathematics and English".
"This is the channel you must choose for yourselves, and for your children. You can watch the other things, but try your best to make sure that you are benefiting from the best teaching that we can give. Master teachers in the areas that you might not have readily available in your small school, you will be able to get through this venture," he told the audience of teachers, students, and community leaders.
