Recording artiste Sizzla Kalonji is set to headline the Makalon Family Anniversary celebrations show at the Jockey Factory in Haughton Court, Lucea, tonight.
According to show promoter and head of Makalon, André Vidal, music fans from Lucea and across western Jamaica can expect a fabulous show which will see, in addition to Sizzla, several young dancehall acts from Lucea, Kingston, and sections of the north coast.
"Fans can expect a high-energy performance from Sizzla Kalonji," Vidal told Western Focus. "The supporting acts will also put on a blazing performance, I am sure. Security is tight, so patrons will feel safe. Jockey is a safe venue with lots of parking space. Because it is so big and nice, it can accommodate a lot of people, plus there are a lot of exits in case of emergency.
"This is really a celebration show that will feature lots of culture and enjoyment. We are staging it for the first time," he added.
Music will be provided by Crazy Dawg Sound System. The event will also feature guest selectors Force Ripe of Negril, Bad Ras of Clarendon, and DJ Mac from Kingston.
The stage show aspect of the event will be completed by Hanover homeboy I-Moore, Ocho Rios-based acts Teflon and Jabalance, Ishabel, L-Stitch, and Ital Fire of Kingston. The duet, dubbed the Star Sisters, and Sample of Lucea are some of the younger local acts to be featured.
The show begins at 8 p.m. and will be hosted by Elise of Irie FM.
Sponsors of the event include Linkz FM, Guinness, Hanover Cooperative Credit Union, and Media Vybz Entertainment.
The event will be preceded by a back-to-school treat at the Watson Taylor Park at midday and a football match between members of the Makalon family and a select squad of reggae and dancehall entertainers at 4 p.m.
