This men's spring season was a carnivorous one, filled with dark and rich colours. It was like the perfect imperfect match between floral prints with the provoking nature of the color pallets. Some of my favourite menswear collections this season hailed from Alexander Wang, Versace, Comme des Garçons, Prada and Dries Van Norton coming out with the sleekest and sportiest pieces and putting a whole new vibe on the guy code and reviving a more sinister and romantic vibe on menswear.
Here are eight style tips to remain chic though the seasons
It doesn't matter where you live, whether it be the Caribbean, Europe, Los Angeles, Miami or New York, there are a few things men should always have in their closets to be ready for any occasion.
1 Denim - Since we are in a blue period of fashion, and denim has made a huge comeback, men should always have a sleek pair of jeans for day and night. Make a little bit more room in those jeans cause that little extra room makes a big difference for that perfect fit in denim.
2 Fit - Make sure you wear the right size for your body type. I know the gents love their pants a little snug these days, but the perfect fit is essential for comfort and style. You never want to have a fit issue, especially if you're taking pictures.
3 The suit and tie - Every gent should have a suit and tie in his arsenal and, no, not because Justin and Jay said it. It is super essential that the fellows keep a suit for the right occasion. When shopping for the right suit, don't always go down the traditional route for the dusty black suit paired with black wing tip dress shoes. Suits have a whole new life with color, slim fit and also color blocking. A royal purple, variations of blue, mustard and metallic colours are always fun to explore for a night out on the town. For ways to rock coloured suits, check Dolce & Gabanna and Versace.
4 Colour code - Have fun! Explore and experiment with color blocking. Take advantage of the last days of bright colours before we transition into the colder seasons and then we go back to black.
5 Shorts - One of my favourite moments for summer is seeing the guys in shorts. They don't have to be short shorts remember my tip on fit. Bermuda shorts have come back on the scene and these shorts are complementary on most body types up to an x-large so, show those legs and get some Bermuda shorts in various colours like salmon, green, teal, aqua, mustard and black.
6 Outerwear - A style must! Sports jackets, blazers, leather jackets, denim jackets or a denim vest - wear it! Don't be a stranger to outerwear guys! Blazers and jackets are one of the coolest items to have in your wardrobe, seeing that it works in the day or in the night. It helps to keep that sexy vibe while polishing off your look. Jackets are great with shorts, jeans and pants.
7 Accessorise - Men's fashion has taken a swing into accessories. The soft leather totes, bracelets and, of course, the age-old watch, the one accessory I will say a man should never leave home without. Remember gents, with watches, it doesn't have to be big to make a statement, simple is always best.
8 Putting your best foot forward - Most men stick to a certain style of shoe: the sneaker, loafer, boat shoe or oxfords. Men should switch it up as much as women do and not only wear sneakers on their down time, but have a wide variety of styles to go with your various looks. I think men think that loafers or sneakers go with everything, but not always. Give your feet some variety and style. The loafer and boat are the most versatile a man could have, so I suggest, if you can, get them in various colours so they can go with your different looks.
Last and final tip! Remember beachwear isn't street wear, so don't mix the two ... sneakers are not for the beach guys! Get your Haviana flip-flops before beach season is over, it's drawing near.
