More than 60 applications from small and medium-size enterprises have been received by the National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) for its annual Nation Builder Awards programme. The application period closed on August 9, after being open for two months.
The bank's popular rewards and recognition programme, now in its sixth year, is offering prizes in four categories. The award will go to an established business that is an NCB customer that has achieved outstanding entrepreneurial performance and has a proven record of significant contribution to community development. The programme also features the Innovation Award, the Start-Up Award and the Women in Business Award.
The Innovation Award salutes a business customer who has used creativity, including but not limited to technology, to introduce a new product, market and/or competitive advantage.
The Start-Up Award recognises a business that has been in operation for up to three years with good business performance and strong community impact.
The Women in Business Award will go to an innovative female business owner with a track record of leadership and social responsibility.
The award programme will also extend and support the entrepreneurial spirit and give recognition to the aspirations of a final year student group pursuing degrees in management studies or entrepreneurial studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus. The group will be identified by the head of the Department of Management Studies as having prepared and submitted the best final year business plan/project. This group will receive a grant from NCB for the development of the outlined business under the NCB Vision Award category.
FIRST ELIMINATION ROUND
The competition now moves to the initial elimination round, where the highest-ranked applicant in each category from within each of the bank's two regions will be recognised as the regional winner and go on as a nominee for the ultimate title of Nation Builder.
All the nominees who reach the regional stage are already considered winners and will receive, courtesy of NCB and its partners, a combination of cash, products, training, scholarships, financial consultation and marketing support to boost their business growth.
The final four national winners along with the Vision Award recipient will be announced at a gala banquet to be held on October 22, with one outstanding nominee selected for the coveted top prize and winner of the title of NCB's Nation Builder 2013.
