The Red Stripe National Premier League 2013-2014 season will be launched today at the head office of the Jamaica Football Federation in New Kingston, and the title sponsors, Red Stripe, are looking forward to changes to the format.
The brewers are in the third year of their sponsorship agreement with the Premier League Clubs Association and are hoping that this season will be the best yet.
"Red Stripe is pleased to continue our title sponsorship of the Red Stripe Premier League. This exhilarating sporting competition will undergo some exciting changes, with the addition of a play-off to keep fans tuned in until the triumphant end," said Brand Manager Erin Mitchell.
From as early as the end of last season, changes were being proposed to the previous league format. Both fans and sponsors alike believed the format did not provide the kind of excitement that had fans engaged to the very end. Last season, Harbour View secured the title with three matches to go, and there was the feeling that those last three weeks of the competition did not generate much interest among Jamaica's rabid football fans.
Notwithstanding the end-of-season woes, Monday Night Football continued to evolve. Last season saw the departure of the extremely popular Kiki. She was eventually replaced by the eye-catching duo of Stephanie Hazle and Rosanne 'Pepita' Little, who immediately brought more fans to the Monday Night Football spectacle.
While not revealing details on changes that might be coming to the television programming, Mitchell promised that Monday Night Football will be bigger and better than ever.
"Red Stripe Football Mondays will be back starting in January, showcasing the final challenging months of gruelling football play. Of course, as expected, there will be improvements and additions to the television show that will create even more engagement among our loyal followers," he said.
