Top-line trainer Gary Subratie left the island yesterday for Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), where he will saddle the filly PERFECT DAY in tomorrow's T&T Oaks over nine furlongs at Santa Rosa Park.
PERFECT DAY is already a hot ante-post favourite to win the classic following her easy win on her first outing in Trinidad a month ago.
She faces 13 rivals and will come from post position 10, with Wilmer Galviz aboard.
PERFECT DAY was second to SELECTABOOK in the 1000 Guineas over a mile and a disappointing fourth to LADY ABHIJITA as the favourite in the mile and a quarter Bigga Oaks on April 27. A decision was taken by her owners a fortnight later to ship her to Trinidad.
Subratie, meanwhile, was granted a licence to train in Trinidad six weeks ago, and to date, has won two races with his assistant trainer Marvin Campbell preparing the horses, under instructions, in his absence.
His other winner was BIGMAN IN TOWN, who won by the resounding margin of 21 lengths recently. The beaten Derby favourite was also shipped off to Trinidad by his T&T-based owner, Baskaran Basswah, in July.
Subratie, who expressed confidence that PERFECT DAY would win, will return home on Monday before leaving again in the latter part of September to saddle BIGMAN IN TOWN in the T&T Royal Oak Derby.
