Ribery wins UEFA award
MONACO (AP):Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery won the UEFA Best Player in Europe award for the 2012-2013 season yesterday, beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo by a big margin.
Ribery earned 36 votes in the poll of journalists from across Europe, 23 more than four-time reigning world player of the year Messi. Real Madrid star Ronaldo won three votes.
The 30-year-old Ribery was instrumental to Bayern Munich's incredible season in which the team won the Champions League, Bundesliga, and German Cup.
The three-man shortlist was selected by a panel of 53 journalists drawn from each of UEFA's member nations. The same journalists then voted for the winner immediately after the draw for this season's Champions League group stage.
St Andrew out of U-15 cricket final
St Ann will meet Manchester at 10 a.m. today in today's Kingston Wharves Under-15 cricket final at Sabina Park following Wednesday's semi-finals.Defending champion St Andrew were knocked out by St Ann in the first of two semi-finals played at Lucas Cricket Club in Kingston.Scores: St Andrew 114 all out in 45 overs.
St Ann 115 for 4 in 31.5 overs. In a rain-ruined second semi-final, Manchester advanced ahead of Westmoreland. Manchester made 183 for six in 40 overs but rain during the lunch break forced an abandonment of the game. Manchester's better overall run-rate during the competition gave them the nod over Westmoreland.

Eto'o joins Chelsea on 1-year deal
LONDON (AP):Samuel Eto'o yesterday became the second player this week to join Chelsea from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
The 32-year-old Cameroon striker signed a one-year deal to be reunited with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who he played under at Inter Milan.
"I am very happy to be here, but also anxious because I want to get playing as soon as possible," the four-time African footballer of the year said. "It wasn't a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it."
