The new outlet added by Avis takes the car-rental company into the heart of New Kingston and closer to the clientele that utilises its services.
The new operation, the fourth for Avis, offers the full suite of services from reservation to pickup and drop off of rentals. The office was opened in May.
The Avis brand is operated in Jamaica by Bargain Car Rentals, since April 1, 2004. Bargain was established in Jamaica in 1983.
Shari DaCosta, director of business development and marketing at Avis, said several factors influenced the decision to add the new location and strategically for it to be in New Kingston.
"There are several hotels in the New Kingston area and a sizeable portion of our clients are hotel guests. The move was also intended to target corporate business, given the volume of commercial entities in New Kingston and the surrounding area," said DaCosta.
The outlet sits adjacent the Liguanea Club and down from the former Wyndham Kingston hotel, which was placed on the market for sale and is currently shuttered.
Courtleigh Hotel & Suites sits directly opposite, and down from there is The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. New Kingston is also home to Spanish Court Hotel as well as Knutsford Court Hotel, while a Courtyard Marriott has been launched.
"Customers can now collect or return a car before they begin their day or after they end the day," she said.
Avis already operates from Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, as well as from Merrick Avenue, Kingston, where its head office is located.
DaCosta said Merrick Avenue operated on restricted hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. "and didn't offer customers the flexibility they wanted"; the NMIA outlet has more extended hours, but is not in easy reach.
New Kingston is a 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. operation, open daily.
Avis operates a fleet of 500 rentals and also offers chauffeur services.
DaCosta declined to comment on the cost of setting up the new location. She said the site was secured under an agreement with Liguanea Club, though she was mum on whether it was by lease or purchase.
