THE EDITOR, Sir:
I welcome this challenge from Audley Shaw for the leadership position of the Jamaica Labour Party. There is something about experience that cannot be overlooked, and in that capacity, Mr Shaw scores high for me.
We have become a society that shows little respect for age, maturity and experience. I yearn to return to those days, and if Audley can take us there, he has my support and that of young people who are looking for someone to steer this sinking ship called Jamaica.
Further, this would be a good test for Andrew Holness - to see whether the people in his party are supportive of him. He gained leadership unchallenged. In fact, the position was handed to him on a platter.
I am not feeling Mr Holness. We need an Audley - cantankerous and combative as he is. He does not mince words. He is not afraid to speak things the way he sees it. He does not sugarcoat and he has an enquiring and investigative mind. As a country boy, Mr Shaw knows how to mix with the ordinary man and to sit with the movers and shakers of the financial world.
Mr Shaw is prime ministerial material. We need 'Man-a-Yaad' now.
