The Sam Vincent-coached Jamaicans sealed their place in the second round of the championships, with a nail-biting 78-67 victory over Brazil on Tuesday night.
Forward Samardo Samuels, who scored a team-high 21 points for Jamaica in their victory over Brazil, will lead the nation's charge for a victory against Dominican Republic. He is expected to receive good support from centre Jerome Jordan, small forward Patrick Ewing Jr, and Akeem Scott.
The Jamaicans, who lost three of four games in the preliminary round, will enter today's contest on a high after Tuesday night's victory over the Brazilians. The other teams in Group A are favourites Puerto Rico, Canada and Uruguay.
The Jamaicans will battle Puerto Rico in their second match of the round on Friday.
Meanwhile, Mexico, Argentina, Dominican Republic and hosts Venezuela are drawn in group B. The four semi-finalists at this championship qualify for the Basketball World Cup, to be held next year in Spain.
