Karrie Williams is to be commended for her continued pursuit of the jet-ski nuisance in Negril with a follow-up article on August 31.
Unfortunately, the jet-ski problem is escalating beyond Negril at other public and hotel beaches. For instance, in the Dunn's River area of St Ann, guests in the hotels are continuously harassed and intimidated daily by no fewer than four jet-ski operators.
Although patronage of their rentals is low, the operators continue to speed in a noisy, dangerous and threatening manner close to the hotels' swimming areas and interfere with the resorts' non-motorised water sports by creating large wakes and discharging oil. Injuries to guests have to be dealt with by the hotels' personnel, while the jet-ski operators make their escape.
Having witnessed first-hand and listened to some of the complaints of the guests and hotel personnel at one of the Dunn's River resorts, I have to wonder how many more 'accidents' it will take to draw the attention of the Tourist Board and marine police.
