The two-year-olds hold centrestage at Caymanas Park today in the annual renewal of the Terremoto Trophy, over the round-five course, the field including super-fit INSANE BOLT.
Trained by reigning champion Wayne DaCosta, the bay colt is pitted against five opponents, among them BLADE RUNNER, who handed him his first and only defeat, on their debut, over 600 metres straight, on June 15.
Also in the line-up is the unbeaten filly, WOMAN IS BOSS, who will ensure keen competition in this small field.
BLADE RUNNER looked real sharp on her midsummer debut when making all to beat 1-4 favourite INSANE BOLT by three lengths in the Juvenile Stakes.
The bay filly, from the stables of Gary Griffiths, showed good speed that day and, having pleased at exercise on Monday morning, galloping five furlongs in 1:01.2, should prove a tough opponent.
Preference, however, is for INSANE BOLT who has looked that more impressive at exercise coming into this race. Subsequent to his defeat to BLADE RUNNER, INSANE BOLT won decisively over 600 metres straight, on July 6, and with the blinkers replacing the visor for this race, the hint should be taken.
INSANE BOLT turned heads at exercise on August 31, galloping 51/2 furlongs in a brisk 1:07.0 by 1:00.3.
The son of Shuffling Madness-Golden Olympio has looked improved in his preparation and, despite the good claims of BLADE RUNNER and the Gary Subratie-trained WOMAN IS BOSS (also working well), INSANE BOLT, under in-form Dick Cardenas, should make it two in a row.
SIX IN A ROW
Elsewhere on the 10-race programme, the unbeaten three-year-old filly, CITY FLIGHT, should make it six in a row when he contests the seventh race over 1100 metres for open allowance horses.
CITY FLIGHT, who won three races as a two-year-old last year and two in the opening months of this season, returns from a seven-month absence extensively prepared by trainer Gary Subratie and, having won easily when tackling this level over 1100 metres in a fast time on February 9, should take a lot of beating with only 53.0kg and Omar Walker aboard.
UPPA TUNE and consistent PALACE GOLD are twin dangers.
Other firm fancies on the card are SIR D to his catch fleet-footed stable-companion REAL VIBES MACHINE in the second race over the straight, SACHIN in the fourth, RONIN in the eighth and the lightly-weighted NATURALLY EVIL to catch LADY SHARVANI in the ninth race over the straight.
