Defending Manning Cup champion St George's College were held to a 2-2 draw by Camperdown High in the opening match of the 2013 ISSA/LIME urban-area football competition at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall, St James.
The Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached school had striker Cardel Benbow to thank as his brace earned them a point on opening day.
St George's were made to work hard for a share of the points as it was Camperdown who looked likely to open the scoring. Urged to be patient by coach Bell, the defending champions responded well, when Benbow found his way inside the opposition's penalty area and he slid the ball into the back of the net for St George's first goal of the afternoon in the 22nd minute.
Never out of the game, Camperdown went on the attack and should have levelled the score when a flashing drive from an angle by Kevin Clarke flew wide of the target in the 30th minute.
Seven minutes later, however, Rohan Scott levelled the score for Camperdown with a good finish in the 37th to send the teams into the half-time break all squared.
The champions were again made to chase the game after Clarke this time made no mistake with a well-placed goal in the 65th minute to give Camperdown the lead.
St George's found a belated equaliser four minutes from time, through Benbow who made sure his team shared the points from their first outing of the season, scoring in the 86th minute of play.
