Spanish brand Desigual took the New York fashion crowd to the Mediterranean on Thursday, displaying a colourful spring collection that clearly bore the stamp of collaborator Christian Lacroix.
The lively catwalk show proved to be a favourite of many on the first day of New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in the Big Apple as the seven days of presentations for spring-summer 2014 began before moving across the seas to showcase the style parades in London, Milan and Paris.
The fast-growing Spanish brand offered up a more chic and subtle version of its trademark look - intense prints, vibrant colours and flamboyant graffiti art. Typically icy and stone faced, models took to the catwalk prancing, laughing and at one point even skipping down the runway in the brand's debut show.
According to AFP.com, Desigual CEO Manel Jadraque said the collection was "more quiet, more sophisticated" than usual, but there was still plenty of color on the catwalk.
One model wore a cropped top with a long, striped skirt embellished with flowers on the side, while several maxi-dresses were also on show. Flair has a few of the pieces that stirred our interest on the runway.
Celebrities and fashionistas have flocked to the city for the event, which runs through September 12. More than 100,000 fashionistas are expected to attend shows and parties throughout the week.
The official Lincoln Centre venue will host more than 100 shows, including Monique Lhuillier, Michelle Obama favourite Tracy Reese and Carolina Herrera. Long-time New York veterans Vera Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg and Michael Kors will be showcasing their collections inside the Lincoln Centre venue.
