Two criminal acts in the United States of America in recent times have caught my attention. The first was that awful kidnapper-rapist Ariel Castro, who was eventually sentenced to life plus 1,000 years for keeping Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus locked inside his Cleaveland home for over a decade while sexually assaulting them.
He was found hanging in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, last Tuesday. I jumped for joy. I am only sorry his miserable neck was not broken slowly by his victims.
Even more good news for me is that Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said Castro's death wouldn't change the city's commitment to helping the victims recover, and that residents should continue to respect the women's privacy. "It is our sincere hope that they will continue to heal and recover," he said in a statement.
Castro was only a little more than a month into his sentence. While not on suicide watch, he was being held in protective custody, and checked on every 30 minutes. Upon finding Castro hanging, medical staff at the prison attempted to save his life, but an hour and a half later, he was pronounced dead at the Ohio State University Medical Center. Preliminary autopsy results last Wednesday morning, confirmed that he hanged himself.
In a statement by the Ohio Department of Corrections, communications chief JoEllen Smith said that a review of Castro's death was "under way and more information can be provided as it becomes available pending the status of the investigation." (AP story).
I am sure the victims must be feeling some relief to know this creep has gone to rot in hell. They won't have to torture themselves with the possibility that he could escape and come after them ... unless his duppy has powers.
With that said, it is my fervent wish that many more imprisoned murderers and rapists will have such a bad attack of conscience over their dastardly acts, they will end their worthless lives immediately. I am thinking specifically of those in Jamaican jails. I don't care who wants to forgive them, I won't!
Zimmerman Caught Speeding
The second item that caught my attention was the one about George Zimmerman who killed Trayvon Martin and walked free. For the second time since his mid-July acquittal, he has been stopped for speeding ... yes the cops pulled him over for going too fast. I wonder if he is running away from his conscience? Surely, he must know that speed kills.
As the Associated Press story shows, video footage from the traffic stop in Lake Mary, Florida, recorded on a body camera being worn by the police officer who approached Zimmerman's SUV, he was at pains to be cooperative and 'nice' with the cops. He answered his questions politely and did what he was told.
Authorities said Zimmerman was driving 60 miles per hour in a 45 miles-per hour zone. Well, if, like me you believe in the 'three time' rule, who knows what will happen if they catch him a third time? I certainly hope it will be so bad they will throw the rest of the book they left out of the Martin's murder at him. I Know that with all his caution, one day he is going to make a horrible mistake and, as expected, the world will be watching. My suggestion to him is that he not wait for prison to stop breathing - permanently.
There is far too much injustice in the world. I am only consoled by the sure knowledge that God never goes to sleep.
