On the heels of a successful European tour which saw Jamaican star Romain Virgo making stops at numerous reggae festivals, the prolific artiste has released his first official mixtape.
Virgo told The Gleaner the mixtape, titled Go Hard 2013 and Beyond, is the first of many to come.
"I decided to do a mixtape due to the overwhelming requests I had been receiving from fans. They wanted something where they had a mixture of my songs in one place and so, as a way of giving back, I did this mixtape. It's like an early Christmas present for all my fans who have continuously supported me throughout my career. This gift will last them for years to come because it's timeless," he said.
Though he may be somewhat younger than his counterparts, Virgo describes the mixtape as suitable for all age groups.
SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES
"As you know, my audience doesn't have an age limit. I try to please everyone from babies to grandparents. Go Hard 2013 and Beyond is available online but Jamaica is home, so I will personally go into the streets and deliver the mixtape to my fans, as I already did in downtown Kingston. Also, when I travel, I will be distributing hard copies to my fans."
Go Hard 2013 and Beyond features some old favourites as well as never-before-heard songs.
Virgo believes that the mixtape, which was created by DJ Wayne from Irie FM, is an effective way of getting music to the masses.
"In my eyes and in the eyes of my team, mixtapes are effective promotional tools. Drake got his big break from a mixtape. Internationally, a lot of rappers have mixtapes, and some people prefer to listen to a mix than an actual album. The mixtape serves as a way to introduce new songs as well as to reinvent old songs on different rhythms," Virgo told The Gleaner.
Virgo recently released his latest single, Beautiful, and will be releasing its video in the upcoming weeks. He is also gearing up for an acoustic performance at The Rockhouse Hotel in Negril on October 1.
