Thanks to a 22-1 upset by DELICIOSA in the second race at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, the Pick-9 had no takers but still offers a $1 million payout.
As of tomorrow, there will be an increase in the unit cost of all bets, including the Pick-9 from $5 to $10 and the Super-6 as well. This represents a 100 per cent increase and in light of this, it will be interesting to see the response from punters.
Meanwhile, there will also be increases in the basic unit from $40 to $50 with respect to win, place, exacta, quinella, double event and triple wagering.
Significantly, the Super-6 and Pick-9 net pool will now pay 90 per cent to persons selecting six of six and all nine respectively, while the 10 per cent will be paid to punters selecting the second-highest number of winners. The first Super-6 will now be called Sunrise-6 and the second Twilight-6.
The Pick-9 will embrace races three to 11, the Sunrise-6 from race one to six, the Twilight-6 from race six to 11.
We look at the Sunrise-6 which gets under way with a 2-y-o maiden special over 1100 metres to be contested by six starters, including the well-forward debutant GOLDEN BULLET to be ridden by Shane Ellis for trainer Anthony 'Baba' Nunes.
The son of Western Classic - Wap looked sharp at exercise in the past fortnight, galloping five furlongs in 1:02.2 beating stable-companion SAINT THERESA, and 51/2 furlongs in 1:10.4 (easily) on September 4.
CASCINA, who loves the straight, gets the nod over MIRACLE SPEED and ORDEROFDISTINCTION in the second race for $180,000 conditional claimers over the straight five course.
CASCINA has scored both career wins over the straight and with trainer Albert Chong securing the services of in-form Dick Cardenas, the hint should be taken.
EASTWOOD, having finished a close third to out-of-class CLASSIC BEAU over 1400 metres on August 24, will not be easily denied in the third race (high claiming) over 1600 metres to be contested by six starters.
EASTWOOD (Renardo McNaughton up) has most to fear from OVATION (Winston Griffiths), who is regaining form.
SEARCHING FOR GOLD, who enjoys galloping over the straight, gets the nod over GRANDE MARQUE and SKIPAWAY PRINCE in the fourth race for $180,000 claimers, while it should be DIVINITY (Dane Nelson) over JAGSOVER in the fifth and ALLADEN'S GOLD (Omar Walker) to lead home NEENO in the sixth race over 1100 metres.
