The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) yesterday reported that there has been an increase in the number of illegal firearms seized by the police.
According to the CCN, so far this year the lawmen have seized 507 illegal firearms, compared to 417 for the same period last year. At least seven firearms and ammunition were seized during separate operations last week in the Corporate Area, St Catherine, Hanover, St James and Manchester.
Among the weapons seized were seven pistols. A .38 revolver and approximately 98 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized in the St James, Kingston West, Hanover, Manchester, Kingston Central and St Catherine North Police Divisions. Six persons were arrested and taken into custody.
