THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am somewhat horrified and shocked that Bertel Moore, the mayor of Savanna-la-Mar, an elected officer of local government and a Christian, should publicly encourage the police to shoot first and ask questions later.
May I remind Mr Moore that we do not live in the Wild West or a police state, and as far as I know, our justice system holds to the principle 'innocent until proven guilty'.
The eye-for-an-eye and tooth-for-a-tooth theology will not hold anymore in Jamaica. It is clearly not the answer to combating crime and violence.
Come on, Mr Moore, please give us a balanced perspective. I expect better, and I believe Jamaica deserves better.
