The man who shot and killed Detective Corporal Dave Daley in February 2007 has been sentenced to 40 years' imprisonment.
Supreme Court Judge Bryan Sykes sentenced 26-year-old higgler Christopher Thomas of Duhaney Park, St Andrew, to life imprisonment and ordered to serve 40 years. Justice Sykes ordered that Thomas could not be eligible for parole until he had served 20 years.
Daley, who was attached to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, was shot 17 times in Brook Valley, Duhaney Park.
The judge pointed out that from the evidence, even when Daley was shot and he fell, shots were still fired at him.
Thomas was convicted in the Home Circuit Court in July, but sentencing was put off until yesterday.
