Captain Denesh Ramdin top scored with 48 and pace bowler Ravi Ravi Rampaul bagged four for 14 to lead Trinidad and Tobago to a 25-run win over Brisbane Heat in Group B of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament in Ranchi, India yesterday.
Ramdin kept his head as wickets fell at the other end to lift Trinidad to a competitive 135 for nine in their 20 overs. Alister McDermott took four for 37 for the Melbourne Heat.
Like Ramdin, Joe Burns batted solidly for Brisbane Heat but the remainder of the batsmen had no answers for Rampaul, mystery spinner Sunil Narine two for 25 and Rayad Emrit, two for 26. The Brisbane Heat were dismissed for 110.
Scores: Trinidad 135 for nine (20 overs); Brisbane Heat 110 all out (18.4 overs).
In the day's second match, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Titans of South Africa by four wickets as they successfully chased down 186 runs for victory. They reached their target in 18.5 overs after some fierce hitting from Michael Hussey (47 from 26 balls), Suresh Raina 47 from 28 balls and Dwayne Bravo (38 from 26).
Earlier the Titans had reached what appeared to be a very competitive 185 for five in their 20 overs. Captain AB de Villers made 77 off 36 balls with three fours and seven sixes. He got good support from Henry Davis who slammed 52, hitting four fours and two sixes.
