Having been a model of consistency, MAMA BLO-SSOM should win today's 3-y-o restricted allowance race (non-winners of two) for the Knutsford Park Cup over 1200 metres feature event at Caymanas Park.
One of two runners in the seven-horse field for trainer Gary Subratie, who is in Trinidad and Tobago for the derby, MAMA BLOSSOM looks more adept over the distance than stable companion LEGENDARY PLEASURE, and with leading jockey Omar Walker going for MAMA BLOSSOM, having won aboard both in recent months, the hint should be taken.
The dark bay filly by Distorted out of Tactful Persuasion released her maiden certificate over 1400 metres on June 15 and since then has not finished worse than third in four subsequent races.
Best of these losing efforts was her two-length second to SIR FREDERICK over this trip on July 17. And last time out on August 24, she finished 3 1/2 lengths third to OFFICIAL REPORT and RASTARAVEN in a fast-run 1100-metre race.
RASTARAVEN has since paid tribute to the form of that race with an easy victory over HAWKEYE and subsequent winner EXCLUSIVE PRINCE over the distance, and this speaks volumes for the chances of MAMA BLOSSOM, who has finished second in two of her last four races.
MAMA BLOSSOM can expect stiff competition from the Richard Azan-trained HAWKEYE, who is improving, and especially PERSIAN BELLE, who has worked well in preparation for the race and now has the services of bang-in-form champion jockey Dane Nelson.
The Patrick Chang-trained PERSIAN BELLE beat MAMA BLOSSOM by a head for second behind PRINCESS SHANEIL when they last met over 1400 metres on August 3, but MAMA BLOSSOM enjoys a 3.5kg swing and should turn the tables in what could be a close contest.
Elsewhere on the card, the Subratie-trained PALACE DAN-CER (Walker up) should be good enough to beat $180,000 claimers in the closing Track Price Plus Dig Out Handicap over 1100 metres, in which 14 have been declared.
The three-year-old filly is potentially much better than this level and once alert at the start, should stave off MAYBE I SAY SO, MR BUTCHER and GOLD TOP.
Other firm fancies on the card are the well-forward debutant BOY WONDER (working well) in the opening 2-y-o race, MEDICAL CAT in the fourth, RONIN in the sixth, I AM THANKFUL to outfinish RUNAWAY QUEEN in the seventh over a mile, and ANTOINETTE to stave off PRINCE THEO in the ninth.
