Western Bureau:Michael Williams scored early in the first half to lift St James High to a 1-0 victory over Cornwall College in their 2013 ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup Zone A clash at the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.
Brilliant goalkeeping from backup André White prevented St James from winning by a bigger margin. He made at least three spectacular saves to keep the game within reach for his side. The only blunder was Williams' 12th-minute strike, which was expertly taken.
"I am extremely delighted with this victory," said Gregory Palmer, the St James coach.
"This one is even sweeter than the first because we had a rough time in midweek, as we lost to Green Pond. But we rebounded in the fashion I like, and I think we were the better team throughout the contest," he added.
Green Pond scored a 5-0 victory over Anchovy to go joint top of the zone alongside St James but with an inferior goal average, while Cornwall are third on nine points.
Champions Glenmuir suffered their first loss to Denbigh High in 10 years losing 1-0 in Zone M, but still lead ahead of Garvey Maceo and Denbigh.
