THE EDITOR, Sir:
WE WONDER why people don't want to go to church regularly and we act amazed when people tell us they don't want to have anything to do with religion, or anything related to it. But when we dig a bit deep into the realities of many churches, we find the type of dirt that would make a garbage truck look clean.
Christian hypocrisy is a terrible cancer on the side of most churches and often erodes the thin layer that covers such institutions.
Churches tolerate far too much in all areas of life. Everybody knows the range of sins that are wrong, yet everybody goes home to fornicate, watch porn, and worse, only to then apologise once they have to get married with a bun in the oven!
You see, we love the Bible, but only those pages we like. By the time we are done with it, we'll have a very skinny book with only two covers and nothing in-between.
Either we mean business in following the Lord Jesus or we don't.
Christians MUST Recommit
I am therefore calling all of us who call on the name of the Lord Jesus to recommit ourselves to live for Him fully, to obey Him in all we do, to submit our wills to His, and to pick up our cross and follow Him.
One of the aspects of all this is to call out sin wherever and whenever we find it.
Will it cost us? Of course. Could it be dangerous? Yes. Will we possibly have to pay a high price with imprisonment, torture, suffering, or worse? Possibly.
BUT unless we are committed to living fully for the Lord Jesus, we might as well just join some social club and hang out with people we like.
