The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that 1,143 illegal supplies were disconnected and 24 persons prosecuted for trespassing on its systems in August alone. During that month, operations were carried out in the parishes of St Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew, St James, Westmoreland and Hanover.
The NWC also says 48 civil cases were initiated in August to recover outstanding amounts.
The actions are part of a drive by the NWC to tackle delinquency and theft.
company says the ongoing islandwide operations since January have
resulted in the disconnection of 9,434 illegal connections, the
prosecution of 286 persons, and the issuing of 403 summonses.
