Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) incumbent vice-president Melton Henry officially launched his candidacy for president of the association at Liguanea Club, New Kingston, yesterday.
Henry, who is set to face off with business executive William 'Billy' Heaven for the position, is seeking to replace outgoing president Lyndel Wright, who opted not to seek re-election.
The launch, which was attended by several members of the JCA top brass, saw Henry outlining his vision for Jamaica's cricket as well as presenting his proposed seven-member executive slate.
The slate includes incumbent directors Major Radcliffe Daley, Member of Parliament Keith Walford and developer Junior Stewart, incumbent treasurer Nigel Logan, and newcomers Major Marlon Kennedy and banking executive Mark Hill.
Daley is down to contest the position of first vice-president; Walford, second vice-president; Stewart, secretary; Kennedy, assistant secretary; Logan treasurer; and Hill, assistant treasurer.
"This team comprises committed and passionate cricket leaders, who understand the game and possess the necessary experience, vision and commitment to take Jamaica's cricket forward," said Henry.
"Under the theme 'Building Jamaica's Cricket through Sustained Partnerships', our team will focus full effort of four key strategic partnership areas.
"These include human capital development, business development, marketing and public relations, venue development and establishment of local centres of excellence, and capacity building with our members."
Members of his slate
Heaven, who is yet to officially launch his campaign, unveiled members of his slate three weeks ago during a Kiwanis Club luncheon meeting.
They include incumbent director Dr Donovan Bennett, Courtney Walsh, incumbent secretary Fritz Harris, Clinton Clarke, banking executives Wayne Sutherland and Hopeton Morrison.
Bennett has been earmarked to contest the post of first vice-president; Walsh, second vice-president, Harris, secretary; Clarke, assistant secretary; Sutherland, treasurer; Hopeton Morrison, assistant secretary.
The next JCA annual general meeting and election of officers is tentatively set for November 7.
