DEFENDING senior Inter-collegiate netball champions The Mico University College, preseason favourites UWI 'A' along with G.C. Foster College 'A' and the University of Technology were all off to good starts as action got underway in the Intercollegiate netball competition last week.
Playing at home last Saturday, the defending champions, who have lost some five members of last year's winning team, had no mercy on G.C. Foster College 'C' team in their Zone III match with an easy 65-9 win.
Open league rally winners the University of West Indies 'A' who have been runner's up for the past two years to the Mico team and with the likes of national senior players Malysha Kelly and Nadine Bryan, as well as Under-21 national player Thristina Harwood in their line-up, picked up an easy win over Northern Caribbean University (NCU), winning 65-16.
Former champions G.C. Foster College 'A', with former national player Elaine Davis in their line-up, was the most impressive winners of the round, as the C Lloyd Walker-coached team blew away Montego Bay Community College 66-1.
TWO WINS FOR UTECH
Another former champion, the University of Technology, also had two wins. In their opening game, they edged G.C. Foster College 'B' 26-21 before getting by Moneague Community College 38-12 in their second game.
Results: EXED 31, CASE 20; PCC 44, Knox 20; UWI 'B' 73, Montego Bay Community College 14; Mico 'B' 36, Church Teachers' College 17; CMI 23, Portmore CC 14.
The competition will continue tomorrow with the following games: UWI 'A' vs UCC; EDNA vs Church Teachers' College; Mico 'B' vs NCU; EXED vs G.C. Foster 'B; MBCC vs VTDI.
