THE EDITOR, Sir:
Imagine the fright and horror that so many Jamaicans felt after the testimonial of Vanessa Wint's cellmate in the Observer Monday.
Her startling revelations confirmed what we already knew about so many people in our society - that we are a heartless and depraved people.
First, imagine the grief Vanessa suffered at the hand of her molester, only to be 'incarcerated' for being raped, abused and being made to carry the burden of the potential harm that could be done to her family had she exposed her predator.
How do we, as a people, punish a young woman during her suffering by sending her to a place as uncaring and ill-equipped to handle her dilemma as the Horizon Adult Remand Centre?
This situation infuriates me to the core. Who are these barbaric people working in our correctional facilities? Why do we continue to have children who have committed no crimes being sent to these facilities? What is the Government doing about it?
When will justice come for the family of Vanessa Wint? Someone must be held responsible for her death.
