The Ministry of Health has dismissed recent claims by opposition spokesman on finance and candidate for the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party, Audley Shaw, that there is a shortage of polio vaccine.
The ministry has also rubbished claims that there are problems with it getting credit and payment arrangements for its creditors.
"For the record, there was a supply problem, which resulted in the activation of special arrangements between March and April 2013. This was occasioned by the arrival of damaged batches which were not used," said the ministry in a release yesterday.
"The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with long-standing partners, activated contingency arrangements which resulted in a return to normalcy in the first week of June 2013," added the ministry, as it underscored what it said is a commitment to protecting the world-renowned reputation of Jamaica's immunisation system.
