The European Women's Networking Event (WNE) is a cocktail reception aimed at bringing together women in the fields of politics, business, academia and civil society as well as young professionals with the aim of creating a forum for networking between professional women.
It serves as a source of information on career and personal development, and encourages social and cultural activities among women.
Last year, the Prime Minister of Jamaica Portia Simpson Miller was the patron and guest speaker for the event in which over 100 women participated.
The feedback was tremendous and the decision was made to host a second event. This year's date coincided with the Round Table on gender and Governance held at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Research at the UWI, Mona from October 7-9. The gathering offered the perfect opportunity to continue the discussion on issues of interest to women in a more informal setting.
The objective is not just for this to be maintained as an EU event but that it will be a catalyst for other networking events at various levels among professional women, paving the way for greater advancement in their respective fields and a well-needed support base to encourage s development in gender specific issues.
The second WNE took place on October 8 at the residence of the head of the European Delegation in Jamaica, Paola Amadei. Here are the highlights.
