Tina Myers Matalon, marketing director, Restaurants of Jamaica LimitedGiven what now prevails in Jamaica, in 10 years Tina Myers Matalon would like to see changes in governance, policy and social intervention.
"As an eternal optimist, I want to believe that there is a positive future for Jamaica, however, there is currently reason for concern. There is one all encompassing concept I would like to see for Jamaica in 10 years and that is STABILITY.
I would also like to see Jamaica as a country that stimulates and cultivates an entrepreneurial environment so the next generation of new ideas can grow and flourish keeping our nation strong."
These could be achieved with a clear plan that is transparent to all on what the strategy is going forward. A strategic plan like that used in any business, to outline the five-year and 10-year vision of the nation with achievable objectives and targets which tell everyone what the goal is so we can all 'pull together' to achieve it. This should be similar to any successful organisation.
"We need to eliminate some of the 'red tape' and all other barriers to opening a new business that in fact stunt growth instead of facilitating it.
From my experience so far, aspiring young business people can create workable ideas for themselves but know that it is a difficult environment with many challenges, yet it is also filled with huge opportunity. In such dynamic times, any idea has the potential for being successful but, if businesses are generated by ideas that have identified real needs and opportunities, they have a much better chance of survival. My advice would be to stay optimistic and think big!"
