THE EDITOR, Sir:
Maurice Wilson has ended his most remarkable and tremendously successful stint as coach of Holmwood's girls' athletics team. After 10 successful years, the stalwart deserves to be acknowledged for his sterling and most-pleasing performances.
He won the girls' athletics championship an unprecedented nine straight times and only missed out on a consecutive decade of success with a loss to Edwin Allen. Anyway, he went on to win his 10th title the next year.
This icon has been around for some time pursuing his dream of being the best in his area of pursuit. My personal experience with him as a friend has seen him planning strategies for successful coaching. This is a man who never gives in. This is a man who plans the demise of his opponents. This is a very strong-willed individual who has the strength of character to exercise patience when things are not going well.
After such outstanding performances over the years, it takes a great deal of guts to say, "mission accomplished", and walk away when no one is pushing you to move on. I do hope his legacy will be carried with the same courage, humility, and vigour as he showed for over a decade. I
do hope his successor embraces his good attributes and continues on the journey for a very successful future for Holmwood Technical High School.
