Head of the police Flying Squad, Senior Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, is urging motorists to be careful with the documents for their motor vehicles.
"We have some creative criminal youngsters who create documents from here to eternity," Ford told The Sunday Gleaner as he advised motorists to make copies of their documents.
"I can safely say from where I sit that every car has two clones to it out there. The documentation is cloned so you have two or three similar cars. We are not trying to frighten you, but we want you to be aware so that you can be alert to the situation.
"I have people who come here to say that they have gone to the tax office and they are not accommodated because there are two or three versions of those papers and they are red-flagged," said Ford.
He noted that within one week after the tax office started issuing new registration discs fraudulent copies were found on the streets.
"This is a major problem, and while we are making inroads motorists have to be careful."
