EARL JARRETT, general manager of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), has called for a rebranding of volunteerism in Jamaica, noting that it contributes greatly to sustainable development.
Addressing a conference last Friday dubbed 'Transformation through Volunteerism Agenda', at the Jamaica Conference Centre, Jarrett said there have been some strides in the area. However, he said more needs to be done to raise awareness among young people.
"What would happen if all the volunteers chose not to offer their services?" he asked.
"The volunteering sector has done so much for our country, but what we need is a rebranding of the sector in Jamaica. It goes a far way in aiding in the development of the nation," Jarrett continued.
In the meantime, Jarrett urged groups to be mindful of persons they employ.
"The same way when one is required to submit various records and documents when seeking employment, I would encourage all those who are in charge of these voluntary groups to be just as meticulous when persons come to volunteer for your groups," he charged.
