The inter-zone round of the 2013 ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition gets under way in earnest this afternoon with the playing of 15 matches, including the Manchester High, Clarendon College clash at the Juici Patties complex.
Other interesting pairings pit defending champions Glenmuir High against Ben Francis Cup semi-finalists Paul Bogle High at York Oval, reigning four-time knockout winners St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) clash with Christiana High at the Kirkvine Sports Club, while at the Frome Sports Complex, former champions Rusea's High tackle 2005 winners Godfrey Stewart High.
But at the Juici Patties complex, the Jackie Walters-coached Clarendon College will again come under scrutiny when they face Manchester High, who are one of only two teams to defeat them this season, the other being Lennon High 1-0 in the group stage.
That game ended 1-0 in favour of the Sheldon Davis-coached Manchester, and having themselves lost their 100 per cent win record most recently in the knockout final to STETHS and will be seeking redemption at Clarendon's expense.
"They will definitely be coming to get revenge after we beat them in the knockout, but we will be ready and up to the task," said Davis.
He said his players were well on their way to getting over Saturday's loss and he believes that a good result against Clarendon will help their mood.
"Psychologically, we are where we need to be, but we cannot take them for granted. They are a strong side with a good coach and I am certain they want to avenge that loss," Davis added.
Elsewhere, Green Pond will meet William Knibb for the second time this year at 1 p.m. in the first match of a double-header at Jarrett Park, which also features St James High vs Muschett at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, Munro College, who finished second in Zone E on goal difference behind STETHS, will play Spalding High. Marcus Garvey, who finished atop Zone I, entertain Brimmervale at Drax Hall and should feel good about their chances of taking the three points in that encounter.
