Manchester High had to come from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Clarendon College in a tough inter-zone match in the 2013 ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup at the Juici Beef Complex on Wednesday.
With the shared points, the Andrew Edwards-coached Munro College jumped to the top of the zone with a clinical 3-0 victory over Spalding High at the St Elizabeth Technical field in Santa Cruz.
Keimo Herron gave Clarendon the lead in the seventh minute in a game which was played in heavy underfoot conditions as rain made it difficult for free-flowing football.
The Zone 4 clash was a typical battle of attrition between the two rivals, with Clarendon looking to exact revenge on Manchester for booting them from the Ben Francis KO competition at the quarter-final round.
Manchester went in search of the equaliser after the half-time break and were level five minutes inside the half. Midfield master Isamnia Cohen provided the assist, with a defence splitting pass which found Demar Senior and the latter blasted past Clarendon goalkeeper Nicholas King in the 50th minute.
Moments later, Francis in goal for Manchester was called into action to stop a low skidding shot from Kevaughn Isaacs and in the 67th minute, it was Cohen's turn to try at goal, but his attempt was easily handled by Francis.
The draw means that both teams will head into tomorrow's matches behind Munro, whose rich vein of form continued with victory over Spalding.
"We came for a victory so I am not fully happy with the draw, but we knew that Clarendon would be tough and so it proved, and to come back from a goal down to earn a point is admirable," said Manchester's coach Sheldon Davis.
Godfrey Stewart High beat Rusea's 2-1 at Frome in Zone 2. Michael Kerr netted both goals for Godfrey Stewart.
Goals from Leaton Galloway, Ackeam Williams and Shaun Sterling carried Green Island to an impressive 3-0 win over Grange Hill.
In Zone 1, William Knibb avenged an earlier loss to Green Pond with a 3-1 victory and last year's beaten finalists, STETHS, grabbed the lead in Zone 3 with a 4-1 win over Lennon High at Kirkvine.
